Yinson Integrated Annual Report 2024

YINSON HOLDINGS BERHAD | INTEGRATED ANNUAL REPORT 2024 222 NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS For the financial year ended 31 January 2024 2. SUMMARY OF MATERIAL ACCOUNTING POLICIES (CONTINUED) 2.17 Derivative financial instruments (continued) The Group documents at the inception of the hedge relationship, the economic relationship between hedging instruments and hedged items including whether changes in the cash flows of the hedging instruments are expected to offset changes in the cash flows of hedged items. The Group documents its risk management objective and strategy for undertaking its hedge transactions. The Group also documents its assessment, both at hedge inception and on an ongoing basis on whether the hedging relationship meets the hedge effectiveness requirements under MFRS 9. Derivatives are carried as financial assets when the fair value is positive and as financial liabilities when the fair value is negative. Derivatives are classified as a non-current asset or liability when the remaining maturity is more than 12 months, and the balance is classified as current. (a) Cash flow hedge For derivatives that qualify as cash flow hedges, the gain or loss relating to the ineffective portion of changes in the fair value is recognised in profit or loss. The gain or loss relating to the effective portion is recognised in other comprehensive income and later reclassified to profit or loss when the hedged item affects profit or loss. IBOR reform The Group has applied the following reliefs provided by the Amendments to MFRS 9 and MFRS 7 ‘Interest Rate Benchmark Reform—Phase 2’: • Hedge designation: When the Phase 1 amendments cease to apply, the Group will amend its hedge designation to reflect changes which are required by IBOR reform, but only to make one or more of the following changes: (a) designating an alternative benchmark rate (contractually or non-contractually specified) as a hedged risk; (b) amending the description of the hedged item, including the description of the designated portion of the cash flows or fair value being hedged; or (c) amending the description of the hedging instrument. The Group amends its hedge documentation to reflect this change in designation by the end of the reporting period in which the changes are made. These amendments to the hedge documentation do not require the Group to discontinue its hedge relationships. (b) Net investment hedge Hedges of net investments in foreign operations are accounted for similarly to cash flow hedges. Any gain or loss on the hedging instrument relating to the effective portion of the hedge is recognised in other comprehensive income and accumulated in reserves within equity. The gain or loss relating to the ineffective portion is recognised immediately in profit or loss. Gains and losses accumulated in equity are reclassified to profit or loss when the foreign operation is disposed or partially disposed of.
