SUMMARY OF MATERIAL ACCOUNTING POLICIES (CONTINUED) 2.9 Foreign currencies (continued) (c) Group companies The results and financial position of all the Group entities (none of which has the currency of a hyperinflationary economy) that have a functional currency different from the presentation currency are translated into the presentation currency as follows: (i) assets and liabilities for each statement of financial position presented are translated at the closing rate at the date of that statement of financial position; (ii) income and expenses for each statement of comprehensive income or separate income statement presented are translated at average exchange rates (unless this average is not a reasonable approximation of the cumulative effect of the rates prevailing on the transaction dates, in which case income and expenses are translated at the rate on the dates of the transactions); and (iii) all resulting exchange differences are recognised as a separate component of OCI. Goodwill and fair value adjustments arising on the acquisition of a foreign entity are treated as assets and liabilities of the foreign entity and translated at the closing rate. Exchange differences arising are recognised in OCI. On consolidation, exchange differences arising from the translation of any net investment in foreign entities, and of borrowings and other financial instruments designated as hedges of such investments, are recognised in OCI. Intercompany loans where settlement is neither planned nor likely to occur in the foreseeable future, are treated as part of the parent’s net investment. Translation differences arising therefrom are recognised in OCI. When such loans are derecognised, the translation differences accumulated in equity are not reclassified to profit or loss as no change in control has occured. 2.10 Cash dividend distribution to owners of the Company The Company recognises a liability to make cash distributions to owners of the Company when the distribution is authorised and the distribution is no longer at the discretion of the Company. 2.11 Property, plant and equipment Property, plant and equipment is stated at cost, net of accumulated depreciation and accumulated impairment losses, if any. Cost includes purchase price and any cost that is directly attributable to bringing the asset to the location and condition necessary for it to be capable of operating in the manner intended by the management. Cost also includes borrowing costs that are directly attributable to the acquisition, construction or production of a qualifying asset. Refer to Note 2.13 for the accounting policy on borrowing costs.
