NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS 31 DECEMBER 2022 2. Significant accounting policies (cont’d) 2.4 Summary of significant accounting policies (cont’d) (a) Basis of consolidation (cont’d) Subsidiaries are consolidated when the Group obtains control over the subsidiary and ceases when the Group loses control of the subsidiary. When the Group loses control of a subsidiary, a gain or loss calculated as the differences between: (i) the aggregate of the fair value of the consideration received and the fair value of any retained interest; and (ii) the previous carrying amount of the assets and liabilities of the subsidiary and any noncontrolling interest, is recognised in profit or loss. The subsidiary’s cumulative gain or loss which has been recognised in other comprehensive income and accumulated in equity are reclassified to profit or loss or where applicable, transferred directly to retained earnings. The fair value of any investment retained in the former subsidiary at the date control is loss is regarded as the cost on initial recognition of the investment. Business combinations Acquisitions of subsidiaries are accounted for using the acquisition method of accounting. Under the acquisition method, the identifiable assets acquired and liabilities assumed are measured at their fair values at the acquisition date. Acquisition costs incurred are expensed and included in administrative expenses. The difference between these fair values and the fair value of the consideration (including the fair value of any preexisting investment in the acquiree) is goodwill or discount on acquisition. If the fair value of the net assets acquired is in excess of the aggregate consideration transferred, the Group reassesses whether it has correctly identified all of the assets acquired and all of the liabilities assumed and reviews the procedures used to measure the amounts to be recognised at the acquisition date. If the reassessment still results in an excess of the fair value of net assets acquired over the aggregate consideration transferred, then the gain is recognised in profit or loss. In business combinations achieved in stages, previously held equity interest in the acquiree is remeasured to fair value at the acquisition date and any corresponding gain or loss is recognised in profit or loss. Investment in subsidiaries – separate financial statements In the Fund’s separate financial statements, investments in subsidiaries are accounted for at cost less any impairment losses. On disposal of such investments, the difference between net disposal proceeds and their carrying amounts is included in profit or loss. (b) Functional currency The Group’s consolidated statements are presented in RM, which is also the functional currency of the Fund. All transactions are recorded in RM. Each entity in the Group determines its own functional currency and items included in the financial statements of each entity are measured using that functional currency.
