Significant accounting policies (continued) (e) Leases (continued) Current financial year (continued) (iii) Subsequent measurement (continued) (a) As a lessee (continued) When the lease liability is remeasured, a corresponding adjustment is made to the carrying amount of the right-of-use asset, or is recorded in profit or loss if the carrying amount of the right-of-use asset has been reduced to zero. (b) As a lessor The Group recognises lease payments received under operating leases as income on a straight-line basis over the lease term as part of “revenue”. The Group recognises finance income over the lease term, based on a pattern reflecting a constant periodic rate of return on the Group’s net investment in the lease. The Group aims to allocate finance income over the lease term on a systematic and rational basis. The Group applies the lease payments relating to the period against the gross investment in the lease to reduce both the principal and the unearned finance income. The net investment in the lease is subject to impairment requirements in MFRS 9, Financial Instruments (see Note 2(l)(i)). Previous financial year As a lessee (i) Finance lease Leases in terms of which the Group or the Company assumed substantially all the risks and rewards of ownership were classified as finance leases. Upon initial recognition, the leased asset was measured at an amount equal to the lower of its fair value and the present value of the minimum lease payments. Subsequent to initial recognition, the asset was accounted for in accordance with the accounting policy applicable to that asset. Minimum lease payments made under finance leases were apportioned between the finance expense and the reduction of the outstanding liability. The finance expense was allocated to each period during the lease term so as to produce a constant periodic rate of interest on the remaining balance of the liability. Contingent lease payments were accounted for by revising the minimum lease payments over the remaining term of the lease when the lease adjustment was confirmed. Leasehold land which in substance was a finance lease was classified as property, plant and equipment.
