Summary of significant accounting policies (cont'd) 2.14 Cash and cash equivalents 2.15 Land held for development 2.16 Inventories - Raw materials: purchase costs on a first-in first-out basis. - Inventories are stated at the lower of cost and net realisable value. Costs incurred in bringing the inventories to their present location and condition are accounted for as follows: Net realisable value is the estimated selling price in the ordinary course of business less estimated costs of completion and the estimated costs necessary to make the sale. Land held for development consists of land where no development activities have been carried out or where development activities are not expected to be completed within the normal operating cycle. Such land is classified within non-current assets and is stated at lower of cost or net realisable value. Land held for development is reclassified as development properties at the point when development activities have commenced and where it can be demonstrated that the development activities can be completed within the normal operating cycle. Cash and short-term deposits in the statements of financial position comprise cash at banks and on hand and short-term deposits include short-term deposits pledged to banks, which are subject to an insignificant risk of change in value. For the purpose of the statements of cash flows, cash and cash equivalents are presented net of bank overdrafts. Finished goods: costs of direct materials and labour and a proportion of manufacturing overheads based on normal operating capacity.
