SCC Holdings Berhad Annual Report 2017

46 SCC Holdings Berhad (511477-A) | Annual Report 2017 NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS 31 DECEMBER 2017 (CONT’D) 3. Significant Accounting Policies (CONT’D) (d) Leases (cont’d) As lessee (i) Finance lease Leases in terms of which the Group or the Company assumes substantially all the risks and rewards of ownership are classified as finance lease. Upon initial recognition, the leased asset is measured at an amount equal to the lower of its fair value and the present value of the minimum lease payments. Subsequent to initial recognition, the asset is accounted for in accordance with the accounting policy applicable to that asset. Minimum lease payments made under finance leases are apportioned between finance charges and reduction of the lease liability so as to achieve a constant rate of interest on the remaining balance of the liability. Finance charges are recognised as finance costs in the profit or loss. Contingent lease payments are accounted for by revising the minimum lease payments over the remaining term of the lease when the lease adjustment is confirmed. (ii) Operating lease Leases, where the Group or the Company does not assume substantially all the risks and rewards of ownership are classified as operating leases and the leased assets are not recognised on the statements of financial position. Payments made under operating leases are recognised in profit or loss on a straight-line basis over the term of the lease. Lease incentives received are recognised in profit or loss as an integral part of the total lease expense, over the term of the lease. Contingent rentals are charged to profit or loss in the reporting period in which they are incurred. As lessor Leases in which the Group or the Company does not transfer substantially all the risks and rewards of ownership of an asset are classified as operating leases. Initial direct costs incurred in negotiating and arranging an operating lease are added to the carrying amount of the leased asset and recognised over the lease term on the same basis as rental income. Contingent rents are recognised as revenue in the period in which they are earned. (e) Financial assets Financial assets are recognised on the statements of financial position when, and only when, the Group and the Company become a party to the contractual provisions of the financial instrument. Financial assets are initially recognised at fair value plus transaction costs except for financial assets at fair value through profit or loss, which are recognised at fair value. Transaction costs for financial assets at fair value through profit or loss are recognised immediately in profit or loss. The Group and the Company classify their financial assets depends on the purpose for which the financial assets were acquired at initial recognition, into the following categories: (i) Financial assets at fair value through profit or loss Financial assets at fair value through profit or loss include financial assets held for trading, contingent consideration in a business combination or financial assets that are designated into this category upon initial recognition. A financial asset is classified in this category if it is acquired principally for the purpose of selling it in the near term. Derivatives, including separated embedded derivatives, are also categorised as held for trading unless they are designated as effective hedging instruments. Assets in this category are classified as current assets if expected to be settled within 12 months, otherwise they are classified as non-current.
